On Filipino Men, part 2

As someone eternally frustrated with the typical Filipino man's sense of style, or lack thereof, it warms my heart when I come across pictures of other men who DO get it. For Filipino men, the consequences of going over that thin, imaginary line between gayhood and acceptable metrosexuality is more than enough reason to dissuade them from even trying. But at the heart of the matter is the simple fact that great style is not about exaggeration. Going overboard is what most men are afraid of (look at me editing like mad. Note to self: say yes to proofreading). The first thing pinoys can do to rehabilitate their wardrobe is to simply have their clothes altered to fit, or better yet, learn to buy the right size. (I've said this a million times). I am appalled at the number of men who live in oversized shirts and lacoste sports shirts which are surely worn for the purpose of hiding a too healthy belly.

Look good, feel good, Do good. So get on that damn treadmill while you're at it!

Take your cue from these stylish gentlemen.

Hot! and that coat!

Perfect play of colors and textures. Love the shoes

Do not be afraid of slim trousers!

This will be a continuing series and a personal crusade I would like to take on until I see hot, stylish men walking the streets of Makati..haha

i wonder if pinoy men will ever be fashionable. i agree with you that being fasyon more often than not equates to batting for the other team.

it doesn't help that the pinoy fashion plates usually shown as examples for the rest of the pinoys are tim yap and his ilk. either they're too fasyon or too over the top for comfort.

Exactly! Exaggeration works for the Tim Yaps of the world, but what about those who can't even begin to fathom the difference between fuschia and rose pink?

hmmm..i think it would be difficult for pinoy men to be fashionable. some try, true; but the majority are simply afraid to be labeled "gay."

most pinoy men are contented in being safe: choosing safe colors so they can be paired with ease, like blue, black, white and grey. they prefer to be among the crowd than stand-out.

well, doesn't that give us a hint on how the pinoy male thinks?

Gawd! I wish my husband would read this and see the difference between polished and borderline TRASHY. I can't believe how 80's-bred, punk rockers like my husband can't get a grip on style. I've prayed countless novenas and called on all the higher powers to no avail. I need help, stat!

i go to a schoole which used to be all-boys.

i must say that the line between 'gayness' and 'metrosexuality' is getting thinner by the minute!

for me, though, fashionable men are those who put on clothes nonchalantly -- without knowing that they actually look hot.

i blog about men's style, i think filipino men like me know the limits on what is masculine enough and what is not so we tend to go for stylish clothes that look good and trendy for guys.
